Daily Kos :: The fake troops in Bush's new ad
The weird thing is Bush's team thinks they are so good at shaping reality they feel the need to do it even when it is not necessary. They kind of out thought themselves this time. It does give a whole new meaning to the army of one concept.

I love the smell of hyprocrisy in the morning.
Here is the deal with the media, they are an opinion driven business. Opinions have to be made and they have to be strong and it does not matter weather they conflict or not. This is why Bush is allowed to say he never makes mistakes because the watchdogs that are suppose to call him on it don't even have the guts to call themselves on their own mistakes. The American public is presented with "analysis" which merely opinion and told that it is the facts. When facts turn out to be fiction who can even choose between the truth and the lies. I guess I just went all over the place here sorry.

While we were guarding the Oil Ministry terrorists were sneaking all the ammo they needed for their insurrection out the back door. Once again Bush is making the world safer, for terrorists.

Winning Argument: Bush supporters are wildly misinformed.
I'm surprised these numbers are so low. I would expect everyone of Bush's supporters would believe these things. Why the hell else are they voting for him?
"He makes me feel safe." Oh, right.
What if we do this, we promise every republican that we will have Bush come by and tuck them in every night. That way they can feel safe and the rest of us can have a decent president.

NOVAK: Let me say something about Jon Stewart. I don't think he's funny. And I know he's uninformed.
CARVILLE: Well, I think he's funny. I just think he's a pompous ass attacking Ted Koppel. Why would you want to attack somebody that's been in this business this long? Attack CROSSFIRE, Tucker, me. Who cares?
NOVAK: Because he's uninformed. Because he's uninformed.

The Preisdent is telling me not to get a flu shot so I'm not getting one!
Hullabaloo : "
WILLIAM SCHNEIDER, CNN SR. POLITICAL ANALYST: That's right. This week there was an issue that hit home with voters and forced the candidates to rethink their scripts. It even walked off with the political play of the week.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE) SCHNEIDER (voice-over): They're standing in line in Florida and Michigan, in New Jersey. The line goes around the block. Eager swing state residents lining up to vote? Not exactly. They're lining up for flu shots.
DR. CHARLES GONZALEZ, INFECTIOUS DISEASE SPECIALIST: It's incredibly serious. We have half as much vaccine as we should have.
SCHNEIDER: How did that happen?
BUSH: We relied upon a company out of England to provide about half of the flu vaccines for the United States citizens.
SCHNEIDER: Uh-oh. Sounds like outsourcing. The president had a solution.
BUSH: We're working with Canada, hopefully they will produce a -- help us realize the vaccine necessary.
SCHNEIDER: But hasn't Bush expressed problems with drug imports from Canada?
BUSH: My worry is, it looks like it's from Canada, it might be from a third world. We have to make sure before somebody thinks they're buying a product, that it works.
SCHNEIDER: President Bush made a plea to the public.
BUSH: If you're healthy, if you're younger, don't get a flu shot this year.
SCHNEIDER: Sounds like rationing, something the president said would result from Kerry's health care plan.
BUSH: Government sponsored health care would lead to rationing.
SCHNEIDER: The government has the situation under control the president says.
BUSH: The CDC responsible for health in the United States is setting those priorities and allocating the flu vaccine accordingly.
SCHNEIDER: Isn't that government control?
BUSH: My opponent wants the government to run the health care.
SCHNEIDER: Maybe the answer is legal reform.
BUSH: Vaccine manufacturers are worried about getting sued, and so therefore they have backed off from providing this kind of vaccine.
SCHNEIDER: Kerry says the issue is the whole health care system.
KERRY: There still aren't enough flu vaccinations. What's the president's solution? He says, don't get one if you're healthy. That sounds just like his health care plan to me, hope and pray you don't get sick.
SCHNEIDER: The flu bug has infected the campaign. The side effect was the political play of the week.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
SCHNEIDER: What President Bush warns could happen under the Kerry health care plan, shortages, rationing, that's exactly what is happening now. So the issue is whether the Kerry health care plan would solve the problem, or as Republicans charge, make it worse.
WOODRUFF: Is there any evidence yet how this issue is playing out politically? Do we see polls? Do we pick up what people are saying?
SCHNEIDER: We don't have any direct evidence that it's having a political impact yet. We know it is a very big issue on voters' minds. They're very dissatisfied with the fact that there is a shortage and frankly many are looking for somebody to blame. When the administration is the incumbent administration, they're likely to take some hits.
WOODRUFF: You know it's serious when you read that some states will fine or jail doctors and nurses who give flu shots to people who are not at high risk.
SCHNEIDER: Right, and that sounds a lot like rationing.
Amazon.com: Music: Agaetis Byrjun
The music section hits again!
This is not your dad's world music. the lead singer of this band sings in a language that seems foreign but is really just really creative babble. By doing this the band creates soundscape where the voice of the singer is just another instrument of what is basically album of instrumentals. The result is both challenging and, frankly, mindblowing. I used to use their last album to put Paul to sleep so if ends up weird we will know why.

Reykjavík-based noise quartet Sigur Rós are the biggest band in their native Iceland, which should say much, much more about the collective insanity of that earthquake-ridden, blizzard-beaten crag of an island than anything to do with Sigur Rós's sound. But in their music, Sigur Rós reflect all the breathtaking glory of the Icelandic wastes--a fairy-tale explosion of unhinged elemental majesty that's finally crystallized here, their debut European release. Poised somewhere between the haunting soundscapes of Labradford and the lilting Celtic falsetto of Enya, Agaetis Byrjun is a truly breathtaking listen. Frontman Jon Por Birgisson sings in a language that Sigur Rós dub "Hopelandic"--an otherworldly mutation of Icelandic, sung in the falsetto cadence of angels; similarly, he plays his guitar with a violin bow, opening the floodgates for brilliant waves of feedback. And while it's the opening "Svefn-G-Englar" that's Sigur Rós' moment to date, there's far more that they have to offer; listen to the pomp and flourish of a full orchestra on "Flugufrelsarinn," or the awe-inspiring near-religious mantra of "Ny Batteri." --Amazon.co.uk

Here is the transcript of stewart on Crossfire.
some highlights
1. CARLSON: Didn't you feel like -- you got the chance to interview the guy (Kerry). Why not ask him a real question, instead of just suck up to him?
STEWART: Yes. "How are you holding up?" is a real suck-up. And I actually giving him a hot stone massage as we were doing it.
(LAUGHTER)
CARLSON: It sounded that way. It did.
STEWART: You know, it's interesting to hear you talk about my responsibility.
CARLSON: I felt the sparks between you.
STEWART: I didn't realize that -- and maybe this explains quite a bit.
CARLSON: No, the opportunity to...
(CROSSTALK)
STEWART: ... is that the news organizations look to Comedy Central for their cues on integrity.
2. STEWART: But my point is this. If your idea of confronting me is that I don't ask hard-hitting enough news questions, we're in bad shape, fellows. (LAUGHTER)
3. BEGALA: We're 30 minutes in a 24-hour day where we have each side on, as best we can get them, and have them fight it out.
STEWART: No, no, no, no, that would be great. To do a debate would be great. But that's like saying pro wrestling is a show about athletic competition.
4. STEWART: It's not honest. What you do is not honest. What you do is partisan hackery. And I will tell you why I know it.
CARLSON: You had John Kerry on your show and you sniff his throne and you're accusing us of partisan hackery?
STEWART: Absolutely.
CARLSON: You've got to be kidding me. He comes on and you...
(CROSSTALK)
STEWART: You're on CNN. The show that leads into me is puppets making crank phone calls.
5. STEWART: You know, the interesting thing I have is, you have a responsibility to the public discourse, and you fail miserably.
CARLSON: You need to get a job at a journalism school, I think.
STEWART: You need to go to one.
6. STEWART: You know what's interesting, though? You're as big a dick on your show as you are on any show. (This was after Carlson said something like you know I think your funnier on your show. It got lost in crosstalk.)
Read the whole thing it is really interesting to see someone in the media proclaim that the emperors clothes suck.

MyDD :: Senate 2004 Analysis
How's the outlook in the senate races? We have heard surprisingly little about up coming congressional races. With everyone stating that this is the most important election of our times why are the some of these really important races being ignored? Well it would seem the reason for the silence is because this election will be a wash. This analysis of nationwide races indicates were are in for more of the same in the congress and really the only hope for change is in the Oval Office. The wrench in all this analysis is the turnout. With record turnout expected things could be drastically different.

Town Hall Debate: Sort of Half-Assed Live Blogging
Bush comes out against slavery. This is strong leadership in tough times. I bet Al Sharpton is rethinking his support for Kerry. Kerry has been very quiet on slavery. I initially thought Bush was talking about appointing Dennis Scott to the court. After seeing 3D's moves on the court I would not think that would be wise.

In praise of shorty
The most politically formative relationship of my life would have to be my observances of grandpa Hurst. Shorty was a man that worked incredibly hard in his life. He had his flaws (obviously) but he never stopped working. What his motivations were we may never know but when you talk about the working poor he was the poster boy. He was a man who worked hard everyday of his life and never made it. Whenever some republican asshole starts spouting off about poor people are lazy I have to laugh and realize that they have the misfortune of never knowing a man of Charles Hurst's gumption. We are lucky in that way that we have witnessed first hand the struggle for the American dream. So here is the praise of Shorty belated as it is. Unfortunately his son will probably vote for Bush. I raise my glass to Charles Hurst who taught me that the man can never get you down if you don't let him.

The People Versus Dick Cheny
This is what Edwards needs to make this debate about. He needs to convince the people of America that Cheney does not have their best interests in mind. Edwards made a name for himself fighting large companies and winning. There is no one who is more big bussiness than Cheney.
What is the deal with Gravitas. It has become one of those weird buzz words that everyone likes say. I read today that Cheney has "undenieable gravitas" and that will be his advantage in this debate. Well, I for one deny his gravitas. I really doubt that during the course of this debate some guy in Eustis is going to say "Hey yungins gather round the TV this bald guy has got some Gravitas going tonight." or that some guy in Berkeley is going to say "You know I might hate everyhing this guy stands for but I can't help checking out his gravitas."
Go Edwards kick him in the gravitas. (You know is kind of fun to say)
